Hand Wash Cold

I love this piece by Karen Maezen Miller---10 Tips for a Mindful Home, that appeared in Shambhala Sun magazine. It's hard to read here, but there's a great post on it at La Maison Boheme.
It's also a good introduction to the deceptively simple style of her wisdom and writing.

She also has an offer on her blog to save 40% when you order two signed copies of her book---more info at:

One Hundred Names for Love @ Beth's home

Awesome gathering! Thank you Beth for hosting and for the intriguing read. I always come home so full of ideas and inspiration after our gatherings.

My highlights of the night: Catherine squatting down while looking up to take a photo! The cat literally hugging Karen. Realizing Natalie, Catherine and Cece had seen the same obscure documentary featuring an old college friend of Catherine's! Cece, Beth and I lamenting the creepy youtube video promoting Ackerman's book. Loving your shared outrage that 3rd graders can't be "coddled" with a "turn in your homework" reminder:)  Leaving with an awed appreciation for the mind, the mystery of language, and the power of conversation.

Can't wait to see the photos posted here, Catherine:)

Turns out you do NOT need to create any account to subscribe to the blog via email. I'll send instructions to those not yet signed up.  Here's to our next gathering on May 19th at Cece's for the book, Hand Wash Cold by Karen Maezen Miller!

Input for next month's book choice

Hi Ladies!

I will be hosting the May book club again this year! Coincidence or are there really twelve of us, one for each month of the year?

Anyway, I've narrowed it down to two books, one is fiction, the other is nonfiction. I'd love some input...what sounds fun to read right now? Reviews for both are here:

Hand Wash Cold

If you have a preference, please weigh in so we can start reading for next month! The third Thursday is May 19th. Does this work for most of us? I could also make the 26th work (the weekend before Memorial Day). Other days?

We can discuss more on Thursday at Beth's house. I'm looking forward to it, see you then.

More Links for Ackerman

I finally finished One Hundred Names for Love this weekend. If you're curious about some of things mentioned in the book, here are a couple links:
An excerpt from Paul's memoir about his stroke and aphasia

Ackerman mentions Jill Bolte Taylor's work and writing on her own stroke. If you haven't seen it, her presentation on TED is awesome:

Dianne Ackerman Interview

I keep mentioning our current book to my best friend in Flagstaff, and today she called to say she heard an interview with the author on NPR.

Currently Reading:

Hi Ladies!

This is the book Eric and I are reading together right now. We had a couple hours while driving that we could dedicate to a read-together book. It's fast and pretty interesting. I'm going to start our book club selection TODAY! Hope you are all well!

Hi Ladies!

Thanks for hosting Marva, I had fun last night and really enjoyed the conversation about, 'The Road.'

Here's that interview I spoke of with Cormac and Oprah. It's not very long and gives you a glimpse of the author. He looks very comfortable in that chair, no?

Looking forward to Beth's pick!
