I'm joking:) Above are ideas Christy joked about finding online, and we were all relieved that she had dismissed them. Delicious red wine flowed, served with all kinds of goodies, my favorite being the French cheese on crackers with a dollop of pepper jelly. Two sweet girls, who looked like they stepped out of "The Sound of Music", dropped in for a minute for cookies and good-nights.
My favorite moments: when Liz called Christy on the juxtaposition of calling herself a "lazy gardener" and having a degree in landscape architecture; when Natalie described the street scene when Liesel tries to stay with Max on the road to the camps; when I failed to name all 40 presidents (I blame the wine) and insisted Christy was wrong about a petty fact (when in fact, of course, it turned out she was right); when Christy's husband told us we could stop pretending to discuss the book and go back to whatever we really talking about; tangents of Top 10 titles and movies, and realizing it was after TEN PM and time to call it a night!
Thank you, Christy, for hosting a lovely evening! I still hope to finish The Book Thief---someday. Meanwhile Before I Go to Sleep sounds like a welcome plot-driven read for March!
I am haunted by pepper jelly cravings.*
I am haunted by waters.
*Before you listen to the clip, can you name the book we think "influenced" the final line of The Book Thief?
